Superior Denture, Crown, and Bridge Support – In a Single Visit!

Dental Implants Oak Park

The process of placing dental implants traditionally begins with an incision being made in the gum, allowing the dentist to analyze the jaw bone and determine where to drill the pilot hole for the implant. With single-day implants, the dentist takes a digital impression of your jaw using a digital CAT scan, which in turn creates a three-dimensional rendering of your jaw. Without having to make extensive incisions, the dentist can evaluate the condition of your jaw and determine the optimal locations for placing the implants.

After administering a local anesthetic, the dentist can then drill directly into the jaw and place the implant. If you are missing only one or two teeth, the dentist can use our in-office CEREC technology to craft your bridge or crown for immediate placement on the implant. Custom dentures will take about a week or two to complete. Once the implant is placed, you can leave the office with a complete, wonderful-looking smile.

Precautions Following Implant Placement

It will take about 30 days for your jaw bone to completely fuse with the implant. During this time, you should take care to avoid hard foods such as apples or beef jerky in order to place minimal stress on the implant. However, once the fusion is complete, you can resume normal chewing, just as you would with your natural teeth.

Dental Implant Advantages

In the absence of tooth roots, you will begin to lose bone mass in your jaw, and surrounding teeth may shift out of place. However, because your jaw reacts to dental implants the same way it reacts to tooth roots, you will retain bone mass in your jaw. Although breakage is possible, a patient taking proper care of his or her teeth and implants can expect to enjoy 40 years or more of excellent support. For denture wearers, implants provide the ultimate in support. You can speak and eat freely, without the fear of dentures shifting out of place.

Dental Implant Precautions

Not everyone is a good candidate for single-visit dental implants. Patients who have lost bone mass in their jaw may require a bone graft in order to properly facilitate the implants. This can add several months to the traditional method of implant placement. Depending upon the positioning of your sinuses, the dentist may have to perform a sinus lift procedure that will reposition them away from your upper jaw before implants can be placed. The initial CAT scan of your face and jaw will determine whether same-day dental implants are right for you.
