Teeth Whitening Chicago

Teeth whitening , offered by Drs. Clifford Zmick and Jason McDonald at their Elmwood Park office, can dramatically lighten the shade of your teeth, giving you a bright, unforgettable smile. Genetics, tobacco use, and consumption of beverages such as coffee, tea, and red wine can all give your teeth a dull, off-white color tone. Even if you have a straight, symmetrical smile full of strong, healthy teeth, a darker hue can rob your smile of its vibrancy. Drs. Zmick and McDonald can create custom-made home whitening kits which, when used as directed, can give your smile a brighter, more striking appearance. To learn how teeth whitening can enhance your smile, contact our Elmwood Park practice, serving Oak Park and the greater Chicago, Illinois area, today.
How We Brighten Your Smile’s Future
Our method of whitening your teeth requires two visits to our office. During your first visit, you and your dentist will discuss the goals you wish to accomplish through teeth whitening. This treatment only works on natural tooth enamel, so if you have crowns, bridges or porcelain veneers, you may need to also plan to replace these in order to achieve a consistent white color throughout your smile.
Next, the dentist will take impressions of your teeth to help fabricate clear plastic trays. Once the trays are complete, you will return for a second appointment in which the dentist will make sure the mouthpieces fit properly. If needed, the dentist will make adjustments to the trays. Finally, the dentist will give you a special whitening solution to be placed in the mouthpieces before they are worn. For the next two weeks, you will wear the mouthpieces for 30 minute increments, twice a day, or overnight. At the end of this period, you will notice your teeth have become several shades lighter, giving your smile an eye-catching new appearance.
Teeth whitening is a safe, effective process that has become one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry treatments available. It should be noted that many patients experience heightened tooth sensitivity during the two-week whitening process, but this will subside shortly after.
After Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is not a permanent solution, but you can prolong the effects of treatment by avoiding cigarettes, beverages such as red wine and coffee, and foods like yellow mustard, which can darken your tooth enamel. Eventually, you will need to receive further treatment to restore the bright white tone you achieved in your initial treatment.
